St.Patrick’s Day 2023 | 5ήμερο Φεστιβάλ Ιρλανδικού Πολιτισμού στα Γρεβενά
St.Patrick’s Day 2023 | 5-day Festival of Irish Culture in Grevena
In Grevena we love Ireland and celebrate for the 8th year its national patron Saint Patrick. This year we are back with the wider edition of the celebration in terms of actions. St.Patrick’s Day will be surrounded by a full five-day themed festival. You can see the detailed program on the website https://www.stpatricksday.gr/festival2023/
Traditional music, traditional Irish song and dance seminars, gastronomy, literary evening, cinema, talks and presentations of Irish folklore. They are the aspects of Irish culture that those who will participate in the events of the celebration can get to know.
For the first time in Greece we will organise an art exhibition dedicated to the Book of Kells (BOOK of Kells) of the 9th AD. century. It is one of the most ancient relics of calligraphy and painting in the world and clearly of Western civilization. It is an illustrated manuscript of the Gospel in Latin. The Book of Kells has gone down in history as surpassing in detail and complexity the designs of other books of similar style of those times. The opening of the exhibition will take place on Saturday, March 18 at 11 am. and will last until March 25, 2023. We are particularly proud and excited about this event as Trinity University of Dublin has given us the permission to make a related exhibition happen for the first time in Greek events. The exhibition is co-organized by the Holy Metropolis of Grevena and will take place at its Hall.
In this year’s wideversion of the festival, we significantly include education. This is how we proceed with the Irish song and dance seminars. The singing seminar will be held with the co-organization of the Association of Letters & Arts P.E. of Grevena and the Ligeia choir. We will be introduced to the magic of Irish song (sean-nos) by renowned ethnomusicologist Lambrini Astid Yoti Andersson. The dance seminar is held with the co-organization of the Cultural Association of Grevena “Pindos” and the lessons will be taken by the dance teacher Gerasimos (Jerry) Moschonas. He has vast experience in Irish and Scottish dances which he learned alongside great masters of the genre in New York.
The St. Patrick’s Day Festival is held under the auspices of the Embassy of Ireland in Greece and its major sponsor is the Irish beer GUINNESS.
Grevena once again gets an international reference! You are all invited to join the celebration, we are waiting for you, to share our joy from Thursday March 16th to Monday March 20th in Grevena!
With creative joy,
